YOUNG RUPERT’S MIDNIGHT DIVERSIONS
The next night they leave for castle and Rassendyll rides alone to the moat, carrying the small ladder. Rassendyll is to meet with Fritz if the door of the castle remains close till 2 O’clock and they are to discuss the next plan. Rassendyll knows very well that if he does not meet with Fritz it means that he is captured and when he dies Michael will kill the real king within five minutes so he has to be very careful about any danger. Sapt and his party are to ride separately and secretly timing their arrival at the castle a quarter to two in the morning Rassendyll swims across the moat and hides by the pipe from the king’s room. He is just by the drawbridge, which is still in place and De Mauban there and Rupert with her obviously an unwelcome visitor Michael enters and says to Rupert,
“The moat would hold more than the king.”
Michael orders to Rupert to return to the old castle before the drawbridge is pulled back. Rupert and De Gautet cross the bridge just before it is withdrawn about ten minutes later—just before one—Rassendyll sees Rupert swim across the moat. Holding a sword between his teeth, unlock the gage into the new castle and goes in.
QUESTIONS
Q1. Why does Rassendyll go alone to the castle through the way of moat?
Ans. Rassendyll goes alone to the castle through the way of moat because Sapt is to go to the main way, through the drawbridge. He might be caught by ruffians of Michael if he takes some one with him through the moat.
Q2. Why does Michael behave rude with Rupert in the castle?
Ans. Rupert tries to meet with De Mauban as he loves her but Black Michael does not want Rupert to come close to her so he rebukes him to do this again.
